SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 10

Prezioso, Oliverio, Caldwell, Rowe, Hunter, Redd, Facemyer,
Sprouse, Minear, Deem, Boley and Tomblin, Mr. President)
Commending the American Tree Farm System for 60 years of educating
and recognizing private forest landowners nationally.

Whereas, The American Tree Farm System, which operates in 48
states, represents 65,000 forest landowners and over 25 million
acres of sustainable managed forest land throughout the nation; and

Whereas, The American Tree Farm System is sponsored at the
state level by the West Virginia Forestry Association and has been
certifying private forest land since 1941; and

Whereas, The American Tree Farm System recognizes private
forest landowners who share a commitment to protect watersheds and
wildlife habitats, conserve soil and provide recreation for their
neighbors, while at the same time produce the wood America needs;
and

Whereas, The American Tree Farm System recognizes forest
landowners who are committed to protecting their land from fire,
insects, disease and destructive grazing; and

Whereas, The American Tree Farm System relies on more than
7,000 volunteer foresters to verify landowners' adherence to sustainable forest management standards and guidelines; therefore,
be it

Resolved by the Senate:

That the Senate hereby commends the American Tree Farm System
for 60 years of educating and recognizing responsible forest
landowners who have pledged to respect the nation's natural
resources and who are committed to succeed in sustainable forest
management; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward
a copy of this resolution to the appropriate representatives of the
American Tree Farm System.
